SpaceX Starlink Speedtest Results Start to Come in after Beta Testing
Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites are steadily filling the sky even though they are receiving more and more criticism after cases of them getting in the way of astronomical occurrences start to get plenty, with the most recent one being the photobombing the NEOWISE comet.
Now, the early SpaceX Starlink speed tests are coming in and the results are a bit far from what Musk had promised.

Recently, 11 anonymized speed tests by Starlink users were posted to Reddit and were compiled in one image to show the data:
It can be seen that the beta users were getting download speeds ranging from 11MPhs to 60Mbps, according to tests conducted using the Ookla tool. The upload speeds ranged from 5Mbps to 18Mbps and latencies or ping rates ranged from 31ms to 94ms.
had told previously that the Starlink would eventually hit gigabit speeds, stating in its 2016 application that “once fully optimized through the Final Deployment, the system will be able to provide high bandwidth (up to 1Gbps per user), low latency broadband services for consumers and businesses in the US and globally.”
The relatively low numbers could be due to SpaceX launching 600 satellites so far. It has taken permission to launch nearly 12,000 and it can only be then seen whether Musk’s promise has become a reality.
SpaceX has been taking measures to try to dim their visibility, and while for those who are using 1Mbps internet, the lowest 11Mpbs internet could be impressive, it can be definitely said that the Starlink satellites come with a price that will be even more evident when a fleet of 12,000 satellites are in full force around the Earth.
