The test kits will be used in a new COVID-19 testing lab at Changi Airport.
The Health and Science Authority has approved the use of a deep-throat saliva (DTS) COVID-19 testing kit called RESOLUTE 2.0 by Advanced MedTech Holdings (AMTH).
According to AMTH, the DTS specimen collection is less invasive and more comfortable than the current collection which involves swabs inserted into the back of the nose and throat because DTS collection only requires patients to draw out saliva from deep within their throat and spit into a specimen bottle.
“This makes it easy-to-administer and allows patients to conduct the collection themselves without the supervision of medical professionals, therefore mitigating the risks of potential virus spread as well,” AMTH said.
The clinical performance of DTS is supported by clinical studies involving the Diagnostics Development Hub hosted by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research; Temasek Foundation; Sheares Healthcare Group; Changi General Hospital; DSO National Laboratories; and Woodlands Health Campus.
The tests conducted on DTS specimens were able to accurately identify all the known positive cases in the clinical studies.
The test kit will be administered at a new COVID-19 testing lab that will open in Changi Airport in 2021.

HAVANA (AP) — Cuba will unify its monetary system on New Year’s Day, President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced Thursday evening, closing the door on more than 25 years with two national currencies in circulation. Díaz-Canel said in a national radio and television broadcast that the country will revert to using its peso, which has an official exchange rate of 24 for a U.S. dollar. It will drop the convertible peso, which is worth about $1. Government
Failure to come to a mutual agreement will lead to contract termination. Small and micro businesses impacted by COVID-19 are now allowed to renegotiate selected types of contracts with their counterparts through the Re-Align Framework, available for six weeks from 15 January 2021, according to the Ministry of Law (MinLaw). Under the framework, counterparties will have to enter into negotiations over contracts that have been impacted by COVID-19.
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. long-term mortgage rates were unchanged this week, remaining at record low levels against the backdrop of an economy punished by the pandemic. Mortgage finance giant Freddie Mac said Thursday that the average rate on the 30-year fixed-rate home loan remained at 2.71% from last week. By contrast, the benchmark rate stood at 3.73% a year ago. The average rate on 15-year fixed-rate loans stayed at 2.26%. Home loan rates have…
NEW YORK (AP) — A number of retailers, including J.C. Penney, Lowe’s and Kohl’s, are telling shoppers they need to place their online orders soon or else pay expedited shipping fees if they want to get their packages delivered in time for the holidays. The earlier-than-usual deadlines come as more people turn to online shopping during the pandemic, creating a logjam for shipping companies as well as delivery delays. For some retailers, like H&M…
NEW YORK (AP) — One by one, the fears creep in as Aura Morales rides the bus to her job at CVS in Los Angeles. A passenger boards without a mask but she doesn’t dare confront him. More riders board and it’s impossible to stay six feet apart. Driving to work isn’t an option; Morales can’t afford a car, especially after her work hours were cut. “I get on the bus, I just pray,” said the 53-year-old. As the coronavirus rages across the U.S., grocery…
BEIJING (AP) — S&P DJ Indices is removing 21 Chinese companies from its indexes, or groups of stocks and bonds used to track financial market movements, after Americans were barred from investing in them as part of a feud with Beijing over technology and security. The Chinese government criticized Wednesday’s move as politically motivated. The companies affected include surveillance technology provider Hikvision Digital Technology Co.; China’s…
The Straits Times Index went back into the red on Thursday trade, closing at 2,824.96 down by 18.11 points or 0.64%. Top stock losers were Singtel, jdown by 2.5%, Mapletree Industrial Trust shed about 2.10%, and DBS Group Holdings was down by 1.57%. Meanwhile, Wall Street ended…
WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden is set to nominate Katherine Tai to be the top U.S. trade envoy, according to two people familiar with his plans. Tai, who is chief trade counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee, will be tapped as the U.S. Trade Representative, according to the two people, who spoke Wednesday on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about it. The role is a Cabinet position,…
WASHINGTON (AP) — The giant tech companies whose services are woven into the fabric of social life are now the targets of a widening assault by government competition enforcers. Regulators filed landmark antitrust lawsuits Wednesday against Facebook, the second major government offensive this year against once seemingly untouchable tech behemoths. The Federal Trade Commission and 48 states and districts sued the social network giant, accusing it…
